Written on October 18, 2026. Covers the attempted sunrise hike at Mt. Si.
One hike I've been wanting to go on for months now is a sunrise hike, where you get up stupid early and reach a summit before dawn, watching the sunrise from the most scenic spot possible. We decided for our attempt to go to Mt. Si, as it's not super long but it has both views east and west, and is on the edge of the mountains and gets some great views out into the Puget Sound.

We got to the trailhead around 3:00am, and quickly discovered that the forest at night is strangely warm and humid, and we were sweating not even a mile in. It slowly cooled as we got farther, but it was a strange feeling.
We saw some wildlife and a cool little information board next to a huge tree.

We made it to the top around 5:45, a decent amount before sunrise. I hoped to wait off the fog, but it turns out the forecast lied and we were going to be sitting in a cloud for the rest of our time up here. It was pretty fun while it was pitch black out, but once the sun had risen and we couldn't see it, it was a bit down for the rest of the time. We went to the regular summit, and headed back down.
On a good note, I did manage to capture a Pika, a little mountain hampster thing which was pretty cool.
