The city at night

Above Seattle

Written on October 18, 2026. Covers the Columbia Center Skyview Observatory.

After this morning's failed attempt to see the sunrise, I thought that we could do something else that I've wanted to do for a while and watch the sunset. I've been wanting to go to the Skyview Observatory on the 73rd floor of the Columbia Center in Seattle, the highest public viewpoint in the city.

We came out of Pioneer Square station, next to the Smith tower, which looked quite large from the ground.

Then we went into the Columbia Center, and got on the overly tall elevator and made our way up to the top. From there the Smith tower didn't look so big anymore.

We did a full loop, looking out over the sound, Seattle, Bellevue, and south towards the airport watching the flight line come in. It was a great perspective to view the city from, watching everything move beneath you is strange. The clouds nearly ruined this sunset, but it still came through, closing out the day quite nicely.

We ended up staying until they closed, which was far longer than I expected, got some quite good food, and headed home. Also it was only $30, which was a nice bonus.
