Visiting SpaceX in Boca Chica

Edited Oct 18, 2026

Written on: October 17, 2026. Covers my trip to Boca Chica, Texas, in 2024.

This is not my first time visiting Boca Chica, I came here just over 2 years ago, almost a year before the first Starship launch, hanging out with some of the people at Rocket Ranch and visiting the rocket garden before public access was limited.

Spent most of the time on the beach, taking photos around the pad and production site, visiting South Padre island, and exploring the area. It's amazing how much the site has expanded in just 2 years, the whole factory is up, 2 giant integration bays, and now 2 launch pads.

We came here at this time to try and watch the 5th flight test of Starship, which is planned to be the first booster recovery mission.

It's been delayed to next month, which is disappointing and all but it's pretty cool to be able to see the vehicles that are set to fly soon before launch, and then watch them perform on launch day.

We also see in this image S26, behind S30, which is some tanker/depot test article, S32, the last of the V1 ships, unknown if it will every fly, and S20, the first ship to be stacked on a booster and a permanent display at the rocket garden.
